The University of Massachusetts (UMass) was established in 1863 as the Massachusetts Agricultural College in Amherst, Massachusetts. UMass is a five campus public university consortium. Each year the university educates more than 60,000 students and confers more than 11,000 degrees at its five campuses located in Amherst, Boston, Dartmouth, Lowell and Worcester. Some of the popular programs offered are in the disciplines of Education, IT, Nursing, Public Health, Management, Criminal Justice, Hospitality and Tourism, and the Liberal Arts. UMass also has an online education division called the UMass Online.
