Emporia State University was first opened for students in 1865. The university is located in the city of Emporia, in Lyon County. A variety of programs in art and sciences, business, education, and library and information management are offered by the university; in addition to programs in Education and Library and Information management and a PhD in Library and Information management. All these programs are housed in the School of Business, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, School of Library and Information Management and The Teachers College.
