Course description This program provides an opportunity for students who do not meet the rigorous entry requirement to a bachelor’s degree to upgrade their skills through a pre-university entry program. The objective of the foundation program is to provide an alternative pathway to tertiary education programs for students who are disadvantaged by their geographical location, family situation, education history or other circumstances. It equips students with the skills and capabilities to enter tertiary study. This program focuses on entry to undergraduate degrees in business, psychology and IT. It covers the following subjects: human perspective on world geography, communication across cultures, introduction to mathematics, economics, English fundamentals 1, statistics, critical thinking, introduction to learning and development, introduction to information technology and English fundamentals 2.

International admissions requirements Students from India should have Year 11 with 60 per cent average. Hong Kong students should have HKCEE form 5 with Grade C in four subjects. Japanese students should have Kotogakko 2 with 4.0 average. Students from South Korea should have Senior High School Leaving Certificate year 2 with C average. Students from China should have Senior Middle School 2 with 60 per cent average. Students from Myanmar should have completion of BEHS with 70 per cent average. Students from Vietnam should have Year 11 with 6.0. Students from Indonesia should have SMU 2 with GPA 7.0. Students from Philippines should have certificate of graduation with 75 per cent. Students from Taiwan should have senior high school year with C average. Students from Thailand should have Matayom 5 with 60 per cent average. Students from Malaysia should have SPM/UEC with passes in five academic subjects with C average. Students must also have an IELTS score of 5.5 (with a minimum of 5.0 in each macro-skill) or satisfactory completion of James Cook University English Language Preparatory Program level 2.
