Overview

The University of Maryland’s Smith School of Business is accredited by AACSB International (The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business), the premier accrediting agency for bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree programs in business administration and accounting.

Princeton Review editors quote the School’s large number of international students and the diverse blend of backgrounds, nationalities, ethnicities, and experiences (38 per cent international; 24 per cent minority; 31 per cent women - MBA 2006 stats). Despite these differences, students say there is an amazingly strong team-oriented feeling at Smith School.

Undergraduate Programs
The Smith School takes a dramatically different approach to other undergraduate business programs. Structured around the concepts of "fellowship," the Smith undergraduate program creates a unique and enriching experience based upon integrating practical skills and theoretical learning.

The Robert H. Smith School of Business undergraduate information technology program was listed among the U.S. Top 10 in a special report released by the business technology news network TechRepublic on November 3, 2008.  The School was cited as among the nation’s best for students seeking leadership and managerial roles in the IT field, as well as for recruiters seeking the best talent.

For further details, visit undergraduate course descriptions.

MBA
The Smith MBA is a traditional, yet innovative curriculum which provides a solid understanding of Globalization, Entrepreneurship and Technology (GET) throughout and presents opportunities to apply these foundational principals for doing business in a number of ways.
International students can take advantage of Smith’s partnership with the Murthy Law Firm, a top immigration law firm located near Baltimore, MD.  The firm's services include a brief pre-hire consultation with an attorney free of charge, consultation with employers regarding the sponsorship process, discounted legal fees, and free online resources addressing a myriad of immigration matters.

MS Program
Accounting is the flagship graduate accounting program offered by the Smith School.  It is designed to provide working professionals with the tools they need to protect and advance their organisations in this challenging environment.  For further details, visit course description.

Executive MBA Program
The Smith School offers a residential, alternating-weekend program that fits an EMBA education into a year and a half. It is an intense, fast-paced program that will challenge and push students in every way. For more details, visit the curriculum.

PhD Program
Incoming PhD candidates will benefit from a $32,500 annual stipend, guaranteed for five years contingent on satisfactory progress being made toward completion of the PhD.  In order to increase doctoral students' research output and improve placement prospects, doctoral students will be provided $1,500 per year in research and travel support.

The doctoral program is global and attracts a very diverse group of PhD students.  Right now there are approximately 100 students who represent 17 countries; about 69 per cent are international and about 46 per cent are women. The 1:1 ratio of students to faculty ensures that each PhD student gets the maximum attention and access to resources.

Over the past five years, 99 per cent of Smith’s PhD students have been successfully placed directly after they graduate.
