Facilities and Services

University life isn’t just about studying, it’s about making the most of all the experiences on offer, and there are lots of them at Nottingham. The Students' Union is one of the most active in the country with hundreds of clubs and societies to get involved with.

The University’s award-winning campuses provide the ideal setting for settling into university life. Across its campuses, the University houses a superb range of laboratory and medical teaching facilities. All students have 24 hour access to computing facilities situated in convenient locations throughout the University. Students are also able to use personal equipment to access the internet in University study bedrooms and increasingly via wireless technology throughout the campuses.

In addition, students have access to the many libraries, which between them house over a million books and journals, extensive manuscript collections, and an increasing number of electronic services, ranging from catalogues and indexes to electronic journals and books.

While the International Office facilitates admissions and settling down, the International Student’s Bureau makes sure students feel at home, with numerous cultural events filled with vibrancy and fun (some of which are Indian cultural festivals). Over 150 different clubs and societies many of which are focused on particular national or cultural groups, throw up a range of opportunities to make new friends.

English language support, courses and a virtual learning centre are available to international students prior to and during their studies through the Centre for English Language Education.

The International Student Placement Programme helps Indian undergraduate and postgraduate students gain valuable and relevant work experience during the study period in Nottingham. Students taking part in the programme receive a training allowance of £190 per week for the work they do.

The Centre for Career Development at the University helps graduates plan their careers and land the right job with a wide range of services such as: annual Graduate Recruitment Fairs, careers adviser-led skills workshops, employer-led skills workshops, drop-in sessions and campus interviews with employers, and latest updates on career vacancies.

The Postgraduate Students' Association not only provides postgraduate students with a warm welcome, but also runs social and sports events, and represents postgraduate interests on University and external committees.

The multicultural environment ensures you get to meet people from all walks of life, make lifelong friends and find yourself being stretched, challenged and stimulated throughout your degree.

Adventurous Indians can even get to visit their international course mates’ home city, wherever in the world this may be, with the help of The Nottingham Culture Vulture programme.

Indian festivals such as Diwali, Navratri and Holi are celebrated with colourful social dos, apart from which Bollywood and Bhangra Nites and screening of Bollywood Movies are a regular feature. The Indian Student Society also works towards raising greater awareness and understanding of Indian tradition and rituals.
