Rankings and ratings

The University of Wollongong is proud to rank among the top Australian and international universities for the quality of teaching, research, graduate employment rates and student experience. Following are some of their achievements:

Top two per cent in the world- The University of Wollongong (UOW) is placed in the top 2% of universities in the world in the Shanghai Jiao Tong Academic Ranking of World Universities. The ranking is based on UOW’s renowned academic and research achievements.

Number one for Teaching- This year UOW is the only Australian university to be awarded a maximum of 10 citations for outstanding contributions to student learning by the Australia Learning and Teaching Council. It is the third consecutive year that UOW has been placed in the top five.

Additionally, UOW was one of only two universities to achieve top-tier status in every discipline of the 2008 Australian Government Learning and Teaching Performance Fund allocations.

A Five-Star Education- The 2009 Good Universities Guide (Universities & Private Colleges) 17th Edition- confirms UOW's longstanding position as one of the country’s leading research institutions and a place where students not only get a five-star education, but a five-star chance of gaining a job with a top salary at the end of their degree.

Under the Guide’s ranking system, only the top 20 per cent of universities can be awarded a five-star rating in any one category.  UOW received five stars in six key areas:

  • getting a job
  • positive graduate outcomes
  • graduate starting salary
  • research intensity
  • graduate satisfaction
  • generic skills
Graduate success- UOW graduate salaries are consistently in the top 20% nationwide. The university has been awarded the maximum five-star rating for starting salaries by the independent Good Universities Guide 10 years in a row.

In 2007, the UOW Career Service won the 2007 Australian Graduate Recruitment Industry award (AAGE) for best careers service for employers.

Employers rank UOW Top 100 in the world- For the second year in a row, UOW has been ranked in the top 100 universities in the world by the Times Higher Education Employer Review (2008). This review rates employers’ opinions of UOW graduates.

Number one for Student Satisfaction- The University of Wollongong has been rated first for overall satisfaction among Australian university students in the independent Sweeney Research Group’s 2009 ‘Uni Student Report’. Students ranked their university based on the opportunities for becoming involved in campus life at their universities.
