The University of South Australia (UniSA), though founded in 1991 through the amalgamation of the South Australian Institute of Technology and the South Australian College of Advanced Education, has a rich educational history dating back to the nineteenth century. Over the years, UniSA has quickly earned a reputation as a national leader in collaborative research, has been recognised for innovation in teaching and has South Australia's largest intake of international students.
Designed in consultation with industry and the professions, UniSA programs include fieldwork, industry guided simulations and industry projects. This real-world experience whilst studying equips UniSA graduates with the qualities employers look for.
The University’s distinctive research profile is based on bringing together multidisciplinary teams from industry, business and the professions to work on projects that are both relevant and beneficial to the community.
In December 2006, UniSA became one of the first universities in the world to gain ISO9001 certification for the quality framework for their teaching outside Australia.
Divisions of study at UniSA include business, education, arts and social sciences, health sciences, information technology, engineering and the environment. The University offers over 300 programs in five overseas countries and is one of the largest providers of transnational education in Australia.
An international perspective
UniSA is a modern, progressive and international institution with almost 34,000 students, including approximately 9,900 international students from 88 countries, making up close to 30 per cent of its students compared to the national average of 21 per cent.
The University has strong and expanding links in teaching, research, consultancy and continuing education with partners in Asia, Europe, Africa and North America.
