Overview

TAFE NSW- Northern Sydney Institute is a leading provider of quality vocational education and practical, hands-on training in the northern Sydney region. The Institute has approximately 50,000 students across seven colleges.

The Institute offers students a TAFE qualification that helps improve their career, language skills, and gain employment. Their close links with Sydney’s major universities allow students to fast track their way to a degree, with up to two years credit for their TAFE NSW studies.

NSI is located north of the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge, close to the city and also to beautiful beaches and parks. All colleges can be easily reached by train or bus, day or night. Above all, the Institute provides a friendly, supportive and safe environment for international students.

Recent achievements

NSI has achieved an unprecedented level of success on the international stage with four of their students winning medals for Australia at the 2009 WorldSkills International Competition held in Calgary, Canada.

Heh-Nian (James) Sun won the gold medal in the Restaurant Service category. Luke Davies received the silver medal in the Manufacturing Team Challenge, Nick Davies received the silver medal in IT/Software Applications and Daniel Jones won the bronze medal in Web Design. Courses for skilled occupations

NSI offers courses at Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma level. Their close contacts with industry and the courses offered are designed to meet the latest industry requirements.

The TAFE English Language Centre (TELC), Northern Sydney Institute is a specialist ELICOS centre for international students in English language courses. Students develop the language skills that they need to live and study in Australia.

University pathways

The Institute’s established links with Sydney’s major universities enables them to offer Diploma-to-Degree (D2D) university pathway programs that allow students to enter a bachelor's degree program with guaranteed credit at these universities in Sydney and NSW. Students can complete their University study in a shorter period and get an accelerated start to their career.
