Very good study atmosphere but cost of living is a bit high.
Selection process and gaining admission
The offer came as a result of individually mailing the professor. A Training Employment Pass was required but most of the arrangements were made by the University themselves - I only had to fill up the forms and send them a scanned copy of the documents. Getting tickets was easy. I chose Air India as it was cheap. The flying experience was reasonably good considering the fares. I landed at the Changi Airport, which was about 25kms from the institution. Baggage up to 30 kg and hand luggage up to 7 kg were allowed. Immigration procedures at the airport were streamlined; I didn't have any problem. The University did not provide any Meet and Greet service.
I was reasonably happy. The professor was very good and knowledgeable but often unavailable. The research environment was nice and it was a good learning experience.
I lived in a private student hostel; in a flat with 2 more people sharing my room. The room was nice but a bit expensive. I had access to the library which was quite good (not as good as IIT K central library, though). I also had access to the sports facilities - gym, swimming pool etc. They were good and modern. Nightlife at Singapore is vibrant, especially the weekends but a bit expensive. The weather is warm and humid.
