I had been working with children and teenagers who have learning difficulties and providing respite care and support to parents for several years before I decided I decided to come to College to study for my HNC in Social Care. Although I have plenty of experience, most employers expect you to have a qualification to support your practical skills and the HNC is well recognised in the caring profession.
The work placement which I did as part of the course helped demonstrate to employers that I have the right balance of knowledge and practical skills to work in a caring role.
Having the HNC really helped me when applying for jobs and I am now working as a Relief Support Worker for Cornerstone Community Care, based in the Ellon area supporting adults with learning difficulties in all aspects of their daily lives.
