I am from New Delhi, India. I had a background of Fine arts and I wanted to specialize in Animation, therefore I applied to various universities in UK. Once I got selected in all the universities I applied for, I chose this university because it had the course I really wished to do and plus it was a very reputed university. I am more than happy with my course, I believe that if you really wish to learn, you will learn a lot here, if not you will never be satisfied. Masters is not a taught course, if you are looking to learn software’s or being spoon-fed, please don’t look to study here. It’s your journey and you have to push yourself to learn, no one teaches anything. I would definitely advice anyone to study at the course I am in, I love every bit of my work. I have learnt so much. My perspective has changed completely.
Selection process and gaining admission
I applied through an agency called ‘info zee’ basically they are the mediators between you and the university, they pick n give you the best universities in UK and see if your needs suit the course. I had to attend various interviews, but I dint give any written exams, I had to make a portfolio of my work and present that to the examiners. After I got my conditional offer letter, stating that I had to score 6.5 in IELTS, I sat for the English exam and cleared it. Later I received my unconditional offer letter, which is needed for my visa. I dint have to give any visa interview, I got my visa in three days. I came to Birmingham by KLM, which BTW is not that great a flight, I m not traveling by that again. Well, I dint opt for meet and greet as my parents came with me. Since I came to Birmingham airport directly, I had no immigration hassles, my friends on the other hand faced a lot of problems in London. Make sure you get your medial examination done before hand, with a chest X ray.
I am more than happy with my course. The university has computers with the latest software’s at your disposals, its upto you to exploit it.
I am living in an private accommodation, one of my professor at university, has his house for rent. We are five students sharing one house. Well I am not doing any part time jobs, since my hands are full with my uni projects, but all my friends are doing part time jobs, its not that difficult to find part time jobs.
Well, getting any job for that matter is not easy, whether you do it there or here. But yes you have a lot of opportunities, there are design shows, where your work is displayed and external people approach you. I got an internship with a multimedia studio myself, I applied online, sent it my works and I attended interview and got through. But you have faculties with contacts and you make contacts with your friends, so its at the end of the day its your call, everyone is there to guide but you have to make that extra effort.
