It was a good learning experience and you will have to be quite serious when you choose to study such programs.
Selection process and gaining admission
As a part of the admission process there was no exam. I was asked to send in the Bachelors & school transcripts and all such academic documents. And based on the marks scored in bachelors they provided admission. I did the whole admission and visa process with the help an agent in Chennai namely IDP. I required a student visa to enter Australia and there was no personal interview for the visa process. I was asked to show necessary financial documents and bank balances or education loans if any and based on that I received my visa in about a month’s time. And coming to the airline ticket. It was quite easy to get to Australia as there are a number of airlines flying from Chennai to Australia i.e. Singapore airlines, Thai airways, Malaysian airlines and much more. The 1st time I flew in Thai airways. And during my holiday trips to Chennai I used Singapore airlines most of the time. There is no such student fare in any of these airlines up to my knowledge. I landed at the Melbourne Tullamarine airport which is about half an hour drive from the institution. There were not much of rules on the weight as we were allowed extra baggage on showing the student visa. But Australia as such is very strict in their quarantine and they have strict rules on what to bring inside their country and what not to. Can find these details on the Australian immigration website. Otherwise there would not be any issues with the immigration while you enter with a valid student pass. The university has an option for the meet and greets service, but I had not opted for it as I had my sister there to help me out.
Coming to the program, everything has been well structured. As such accounts field has a got a good name in Australia. The professors are highly experienced and have a good knowledge about what they teach. The lecture halls have also been structured in a very professional and convenient way with easy access to the professor and the students. The library can be mentioned as the best part in the whole campus, its so huge covering about three storey and you name a book and you can find it there.
I stay with my sister and brother-in-law. I have no idea about the university accommodation as I don’t stay there and all my friends have also rented out a place outside. Australia as such is known for its sports activity. In the same way the university also offers the fullest in the sports field. I have no idea about scholarships and stuff. Part time jobs are available everywhere in the country. Its quite easy to get 1 if looked for seriously and also the pay is really good. The other side of Australians other than work and sports is their social and night life. People from India would find the night life completely different from their place as its highly westernized. I was in Melbourne and the weather there was not all that comfortable. It has got the extremes, winter too cold and summer too hot. And also the weather keeps changing every half an hour, which is not all that good for our country people. The university has international students society and they handle programs like country visits and trips around the city and the country too. And also they arrange for regular party’s where all international students and also localities can join and get to know each other.
The university does not provide with any placement support. The prospect of getting jobs within the country depends on the field and the area of study. Accounting as such has a very good scope and there are a number of vacancies in this field. There are no campus placement activities in this university. I have no idea about the work permit as I came over to Singapore once I finished my course there and I did not collect any information on getting work permit there. There is an alumni network in the university. They stay in regular touch with the alumni students by sending mails and invites for meetings and get together. But since I have shifted to Singapore and have no idea of going back to Melbourne I ignore those mails.
