Good course content

MA Textiles Fashion & Surface Design
University: Birmingham City University, United Kingdom

Overall experience

My University is good, but I would advise students check rankings and choose a University which best suits their criteria. I chose my program for the course content and my professors are very informative.

Selection process and gaining admission

I took TOEFL (IELTS is accepted too). I did not go for any coaching classes, but bought material which helped me prepare. I used the services of both Education Overseas Academy (EOA) and Exnet International. I required a visa, but did not attend any interview. I flew British Airways. It was a good journey, though there was no student concession. I landed at London Heathrow Airport. I intended to land in London for some personal purposes. One very good policy of British Airways is that they allow one extra piece of main luggage weighing 23kgs if you are travelling on a student visa to the UK. There was intensive checking and immigration rules at the airport. My University offered me a “meet and greet” service, but I denied it because of other personal issues.

Your study experience

I chose my program for the course content and my professors are very informative. The library and lecture halls are well equipped. I do not use the sports facilities provided.

Your life experience

I am living in a private accommodation. It is a bit difficult to get hold of part time jobs, but it is possible to get one. Social activities and night life is great in Birmingham. Weather is very depressing and gloomy most of the time here. There is an International Student Society in my University, but I didn’t have the need to use their services.

Job prospects

No, there is no placement cell or campus placement process in my University and it is a bit of a hassle for International Students to find jobs. There is an alumni Society, but I have not yet approached them for any assistance.

Would you recommend your institution to future students?

Yes
