I am currently pursuing the Masters program at the Univ of Maryland, College Park. The program has been well structured and the modules are pretty interesting. I would definitely recommend my institution to future students.
Selection process and gaining admission
I had to write GRE/TOEFL I prepared using Barrons. You don't need coaching classes. You don't really need counselors. Just network with seniors. I needed a VISA. VISA interview is easy if you have good communication skills in English. Attend the workshop conducted by the embassy. That helps. I landed at the Baltimore- Washington Airport. Got a senior to pick me up. You get a good deal with baggage if u are a student. Just be confident and you will not have immigration issues.
Getting an assistantship is a little hard in these economic times. But there are a lot of positions open and available. TA / RA is usually for the PhD students.
Pretty much things are laid out in front of you at College Park.
I live off campus. Weather is good for most part of the year. The winter can get chilly and with appropriate winter wear it is bearable.
There are a number of campus fairs that bring companies down to talk to the students. But there is no official body that makes sure students are placed. It is left to your competence to get a job.
Would you recommend your institution to future students?
