Both the MPA degree and AAAS Certificate encourage work that is interdisciplinary, comparative, or global in methodology and theory, as well as specialized locally or regionally. The ability to combine these elements is advantageous to students interested in Asian and Asian American studies, those who seek employment in a public service agency in the U.S. , or work in a multi- or supra-national organization, as it provides greater knowledge about Asian populations and cultures not only in Asia, but also in the U.S. and the diaspora.

BA and MA Five-Year Combined-Degree Program (Art History)
Study mode: Full Time |
The art history BA and MA combined-degree program admits qualified applicants who are enrolled as art history majors at Binghamton University and wish to complete a BA with an art history major in Track A: art history concentration or in Track B: architectural and urban history concentration, but not Track C: pre-architecture; with an MA in art history, in five years. The program restricts admission to students with exceptional academic records and demonstrated potential for advanced graduate work. Prospective students should begin the application process early in the junior year by applying to the combined-degree program at the level of the Art History Department. Applicants will fill out an internal form generated by the Art History Department and submit an official transcript, the names of two professors who have agreed to serve as references and a writing sample. Qualified students will be conditionally admitted into the combined-degree program and then they will be allowed to enroll in 500-level courses that may be double-counted to fulfill requirements for both the BA and the MA. During the first semester of the senior year, combined-degree students must apply for formal admission to the Graduate School. The combined-degree student is granted MA student status only after all requirements for the BA degree are completed satisfactorily, with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 for graduate coursework. Combined-degree students may not select the Senior Honors Thesis option (ARTH 498-499).
BA and MA in Biological Sciences
Study mode: Full Time |
The program is designed for Binghamton University students who want to earn both a BA and Masters degrees in Biology in 5 years. The requirements for completion of the combined BA-Masters degree program are identical to those for completion of the two separate degrees. Students are able to complete the requirements in five years because 12 hours of course work that is taken for the Masters degree (500-600 level) also count for the undergraduate degree. If for some reason a student decides not to continue with the 5-year program, the B.A. can still be awarded provided of course that all requirements for the major have been fulfilled.

The BA degree gives students exposure to the four main areas of Chemistry (Analytical, Inorganic, Organic, and Physical) but requires fewer courses than the BS degree. As such, it provides more opportunity to explore other areas and interests. This extra flexibility can be quite useful if their goal is admission to a graduate program or professional school outside of Chemistry (for example, Medical School, Law School, Optometry, etc.). For these career goals, a detailed knowledge of Chemistry is not as critical as the breadth of science knowledge.
BA in Chemistry and MAT in Teaching
Study mode: Full Time |
The five-year program leading to a BA in chemistry and an MAT in teaching efficiently combines an undergraduate degree in chemistry with a graduate-level teacher certification program. Students should declare their interest in this option as soon as possible to ensure proper undergraduate course selection. Students should apply for the combined program no later than the beginning of their junior year. Admission decisions for the combined program will be made no later than spring of the student's junior year. Application and admissions processes are through the MAT program and the Graduate School. Admissions decisions for the combined program will be based on course grades (GPA 3.0 or better), chemistry faculty recommendations, an interview by MAT program faculty, GRE scores (if taken), and a personal narrative essay of approximately 1,000 words. For more information about the five-year combined BA/MAT program, please see the chemistry department undergraduate program director.
