This program provides students with the opportunity to explore career possibilities in the field of aviation and to receive pilot certification through the instrument rating and the commercial pilot certificate, before committing to the baccalaureate degree program. Also, students who complete the A.A.S. degree program may terminate their studies and enter the aviation industry to pursue career positions as certified pilots and other opportunities that might be available. However, A.A.S. degree students are encouraged strongly to continue their studies for the B.S. degree because of the competitive nature of the aviation industry, wherein the most qualified personnel are sought. Students interested in this program should contact the Department of Aviation.

This program meets the requirements for prekindergarten associate teacher licensure in Ohio. To be eligible for licensure students must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher. If they plan to pursue licensure in Early Childhood Education, they must maintain a 2.75 GPA. Consult with the director of human and consumer sciences in Athens, or the director of child development at either the Lancaster or Southern campus for additional information, including employment opportunities and continuation into the baccalaureate degree program.

This program has three major categories of required courses: (1) prerequisites, (2) general education requirements, and (3) nursing courses. Prerequisite courses include chemistry, biology and algebra at the high school or college level with a grade of C or better. Students are required to take the ACT compass placement test in the areas of Math, English and Reading. Students must test at the college level or take the required courses. Courses taken at other colleges will be evaluated for transfer credit. If the content is equivalent to the relevant Ohio University course and the earned grade is at least a ?C? it may be transferred. Decisions about transfer credit will be made on a case-by-case basis. Students must have a minimum college GPA of 2.75 or better. All transfer GPA?s will be combined for review by the selection committee.

This program offers theoretical concepts taught by instructors who bring practical hands on knowledge to the classroom. It takes a management approach to the functional areas of business operations like sales, marketing, supervision, planning, advertising, purchasing, etc. The principles of continuous quality improvement are used throughout the program. Concentrations may be designed from a wide range of existing BMT courses or other programs, and may be chosen from areas of study such as marketing, quality, small business administration, real estate, organizational communications, and computer applications, among others.

This program is recommended for those who want to study general education with an emphasis on physics and have plans for further education or employment in an interdisciplinary area or desire a dual major in physics and chemistry, biological sciences, and geological sciences. Students can meet the requirements for teaching high school physics by completing the physics major program listed in the College of Education section.
B. S. in Physics - Applied Physics

This program allows an emphasis in experimental techniques together from specific engineering or other applied sciences. It provides the opportunity for a broad basic education in areas fundamental to present technology and is aimed at preparing you for many physics career opportunities in industry and government laboratories. The sequence of courses will vary depending on your interests. Basic requirements in natural sciences, physics, and mathematics will be equivalent to those of the regular B.S. in physics but may be set in engineering or other applied science courses. The elected sequence of interest could be toward a specific area of interest within an engineering college, e.g. Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, etc. or over a broad area of interest e.g. materials science, which comes from several colleges.

B.A. in African American Studies

This program includes courses in communications, education, history, political science, psychology, social sciences, art, literature, and music as they reflect and provide insight into the African American and the African experiences in the Americas. The minimum grade-point average for graduation is 2.0 (C) in all courses attempted. A grade of C is also required in each major course. Advising is an essential element in the African American Studies program. Each student works closely with a faculty member whose expertise and interests are related to the student's academic pursuits. Students who major in African American Studies have two options-a major in the social sciences or a major in the humanities. Students who major in the social sciences can also participate in new specializations.
