B.A. in Architectural History

Study mode: Full Time |

This program introduces students to the study of architecture as an academic discipline not centered in the studio. Rather, architecture will be presented as the means of understanding the broad range of ideas, issues and events traditionally associated with study in the humanities. This includes the study of history, art, religion, economics, politics, industrial development, business practices, etc. - all addressed by examination of the unique qualities inherent in the tangible artifacts that are buildings, and in the disparate ideas associated with the production of those buildings.

B.A. in Art History

Study mode: Full Time |

This program introduces students to the study of works of art as they relate to the historical and cultural contexts in which they are produced. Students will be exposed to a broad range of artistic production, from antiquity through the present, and to the varied intellectual concerns and methodological approaches that characterize the discipline. Because the discipline of art history approaches the study of works of art from diverse concerns and interests, students will also learn to use evidence from the study of history, religion, economics, politics, literature, and gender studies. The art history major trains students in critical thinking and analytical skills that provide an excellent foundation for careers or further study in the field of art history, as well as for a wide range of other professional and educational options. Many students of art history at Lehigh have gone on to jobs in art galleries, museums, and other cultural institutions, or to graduate study in art history. Others have gone on to successful careers in such fields of law, business, and medicine.

B.S. in Environmental Engineering

Study mode: Full Time |

This is an interdisciplinary branch of the engineering profession that has emerged from the societal needs to educate engineers in the causes, control, and prevention of environmental pollution while maintaining industrial and economic growth. Traditionally, environmental engineers were involved in designing and constructing drinking water treatment plants, sewage treatment facilities and water distribution networks. More recently, the environmental engineering profession has greatly expanded and the activities include: detection and modeling fate and transport of contaminants in both natural and engineered environments; applying technology-based solutions for restoring environmental quality; developing and/or modifying industrial processes for ecological preservation and enhanced sustainability.

B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering

Study mode: Full Time |

This program is an excellent balance between theoretical understanding and practical experience. There is an unusually high component of hands-on work in this program. Students study in labs in a way that develops practical skills as well as illustrates the fundamentals of the field. There is a rich interaction between students and professors. Lehigh is big enough to be a world class university but small enough that students get to know professors and interact with them on a friendly basis. Students who have studied materials science and engineering seek employment in an extremely broad range of industry. They select materials, they design materials and products, and they analyze failures so that they do not occur again. As an example of the latter, a group of Lehigh students, with their professor, was the only university team to work with NASA on unraveling the causes of the Columbia disaster.

BA in Earth and Environmental Sciences

Study mode: Full Time |

This program involves a total of 32 credits in EES. After completing all other University and College requirements, the student will still have 55 credits to spend exploring other areas, studying in related fields, or doing a double major. This program is flexible, simple, and gives the students plenty of chances for field work if that is to their liking. It is a basic program that leaves plenty of room for double-majoring, building career credentials, or exploring the wealth of offerings available here at Lehigh. On the other hand, by working with the advisor and keeping an eye on this program's requirements, students can build a rigorous B.A. that will get them into grad school and beyond.
