Current research interests include: effects of increasing carbon monoxide (CO) levels and air pollutants such as ozone and sulphur dioxide on metabolism and physiology of plants, with particular interest in ways in which these pollutants affect susceptibility of plants to other stresses such as drought and low temperature; biochemical processes determining sensitivity of plants to stress, studied at molecular level using transgenic plants; effects of increasing CO concentrations on native plants and insect herbivores which feed on them; facilities for study of UV-B effects on vegetation include modulated UV-B system which allows outdoor exposure of plants under natural conditions; particular interest in UV-B effects on decomposition processes in natural ecosystems.
