This double degree is a 4.5 year full-time course offered by the School of Science and Engineering and the School of Business. To qualify for the double degree award, students are required to complete the core units of each component degree thus satisfying the aims and objectives of both while elective studies complete the balance of units. Combined degrees offer the students a chance to pursue two areas of interest, and to complete the two degrees in less time than they would take if done individually. The combined degree requires students to undertake a minimum of 16 units from each of the Food Science and Management degrees. The Food Science component of the combined degree covers the principles and applications of food preservation, production development, quality management, food chemistry, chemical and microbiological analysis of food and fermentation technology. For the Bachelor of Management component, they have the opportunity to choose a major in Human Resource Management, Marketing or Tourism.

A recent $2.1 Million alliance with Xstrata Zinc aims to strengthen the link between industry and earth science education and research. This program provides major studies in welfare theory and practice. This course will prepare students for employment in a wide variety of welfare and social services in government and non-government agencies. While generic skills are developed, attention is given to the complexities of working in non-urban areas in welfare and community work positions. Intensive studies and skill development in the areas of individual and family counselling, group work, community work practice, public policy analysis and human service management are included. A feature of the course is the 15-week practical fieldwork experience in welfare agencies. In addition to their welfare major, students will also choose a major in psychology or the social sciences. Graduates may also continue onto postgraduate studies in psychology or education as well as welfare.
