Course description This program is based on the Illinois Content Standards for a Reading Specialist and leads to a Type 10 K-12 certificate. The reading specialist endorsement is valid not only for teaching reading to students but also for providing technical assistance and/or professional development to other teachers. The program offers students a focus on reading as a process and a strong research/inquiry base as technology is integrated throughout the curriculum. Completion of a thesis, a practicum, and a professional portfolio is required.
Entry requirementsStudents must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and show high probability of success in the program and the profession. For applicants whose native language is not English, a TOEFL test score of 600 on paper-based test or a score of 250 on the computer-based test for international applicants is required. (Minimum score may vary as ETS revised the exam). Applicants who do not meet the stated admission requirements for full admission may be considered for probationary admission.
Application details Students submit a Nonrefundable application fee $40 payable by personal check or money order along with the International Graduate application. To apply for admission the first step is to call or write to the International Programs Office at Benedictine University and request an application package or fill out an application online. In order to process students application, they have to provide us with all required admission documents: Benedictine University international student application; Personal statement; Copy of Passport (personal information page only); Transcripts and ECE evaluations; Standardized test scores; References; Language proficiency; Evidence of financial support - Confidential Financial Statement of Support; Health form and Immunization.
