The oldest public university in the state of Victoria, the University of Melbourne was established in 1853 and is a member of the Group of Eight colleges of Australia. The primary campus of the university is at the suburb of Parkville in Melbourne city. A few other branches exist at Southbank, Dookie, Burnley, Cresswick and Werribee in regional Victoria.
