James Cook University was proclaimed in Townsville in 1970. The 2 main campuses of the university are in Queensland and in the city of Cairns. It also has specialist centres of research in New South Wales and Queensland. There are around 4000 international students enrolled at the university. The university offers courses in the field of Arts, Business, Creative Arts, Education, Engineering, Law, Medicine and Health Sciences, Science, Information Technology and Social Sciences. Research is concentrated in fields like biodiversity, global warming, tropical agriculture, etc.
