Course description This course gives students the opportunity to deepen and broaden their understanding of how the English language works from a structural, historical, socio-cultural, developmental and pedagogical perspective. It focuses on the design of English, how it functions in society, how it develops and changes, how it relates to thought and how it is acquired and learned. Students develop specialised skills in analysing the structure of the English language as well as being able to critically assess its written texts.

Entry requirementsStudents must have Equivalent Australian Year 12 WITH Units 3 and 4-a study score of at least 30 in English (ESL) or 25 in any other English. Students must also satisfy IELTS a minimum test score of 6.5 overall, at least 6.5 in Reading, Listening and at least 6.0 in Writing and Speaking, Paper-based TOEFL a minimum test score of 580, a Test of Written English (TWE) score of at least 4.5, Computer-based TOEFL a minimum test score of 237 in the computer-based TOEFL, an Essay Rating (ER) of at least 4.5, Internet-based TOEFL a score of at least 90 overall, a Writing score of at least 22 and no score lower than 20 on the other sections of the test.
