Course description This is an interdisciplinary area of study focusing on modern Asian societies and cultures and their historical traditions, with a particular focus on China, Indonesia, Japan and Korea. Asian Studies brings together various perspectives and approaches from culture, Economics, History, Politics, Sociology, literature and media to explore the changes that have happened in the Asian region over the last century, the integration of Asian countries in a global environment and Australia's relations with its Asian neighbours.

Entry requirementsStudents must have completed Year 12 or equivalent. Students from China and Pakistan should have completed an accredited or an equivalent bachelor degree. African and Singaporean students should have undertaken a minimum of two GCE "A" level subjects at one sitting, while those from Malaysia must have a minimum of two academic STPM "principal" level subjects at one sitting. Students from USA must have undertaken SATs (Math and Verbal) or ACTs, and provide proof of graduation from High School. They must also satisfy the English language requirement as follows: IELTS an overall minimum score of 6.5 is required, together with a minimum score of 6.0 in each of the sub-tests of listening, reading, speaking and writing or a TOEFL score (paper-based test) of at least 577, with a minimum score of 4.5 in the TWE, a TOEFL score (computer-based test) of at least 233, with a minimum score of 5.0 in the essay component, or a TOEFL score (internet test) of at least 90, with a minimum score of 24 in Writing or CULT an overall minimum score of 70 is required, with a minimum score of 17.0 in each of the sub-tests of listening, reading, speaking and writing.

Application details Students currently completing an Australian Year 12 (either in Australia or offshore), NZ NCEA Level 3 qualification or the International Baccalaureate in Australia, they must apply through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC). All other international applicants who have completed or are completing qualifications OTHER than those listed above must apply for admission directly to the university. An application fee of AUD $100 applies to each paper application form and is payable by credit card, bank cheque or bank draft made out to 'The University of New South Wales'.
